Sun and Google, a leading Web search company, said they would jointly promote Java Desktop and Open Office, Sun's operating system and office productivity software systems.
"Working with Google will make our technologies available more broadly, increase options for user, lower barriers, and expand participation worldwide," Scott McNealy, chief executive of Sun, said at a joint news conference in Silicon Valley.
The comment from Scott McNealy made me want to mention to Google something my old scoutmaster told me: "don't get too close to a drowning man, unless you plan to save him."
